In Microsoft Excel there is no specific function for Basic MS Excel addition but we will learn about what is MS Excel Addition Formula and we also discuss about how to use Addition in Excel sheet. In this Excel Training we will use five different examples for our exercise and we learn about how to do addition within a cell in excel and how to do addition of a column in excel as well as we also learn about How to use excel addition formula for multiple cells in our examples.

## What is Simple & basic Excel addition formula with examples and How to Do Addition in Excel Sheet [Example 1]

The basic Ms excel Addition formula is “equal sign cell1 plus sign cell2” if we apply this formula anywhere in Excel this will give the answers on your required cell. As in below example it is clearly mentioned.

### FORMULA =Cell 1 + cell 2

### Formula used in example =A4+C4

In above example we mentioned tow numbers in two different cells. Here learn about how to use Excel addition formula for two different cells. In first cell (A4) we mentioned number 25and on second (C4) cell we mentioned number 20 then we apply excel addition formula using plus Sign (+). For this case we use addition formula as =A4+C4 and we got the answer in cell E4 as we apply it in E4. So excel automatically calculated this result and provide it in E4.

## How to Do Addition within a Cell in Excel [Example 2]

There are two ways to do addition within a cell in Excel. The first formula is “equal sign number plus sign number” and you will get the answer in the same cell. The second formula is “plus sign number plus sign number”

#### Addition within a Cell in Excel =Cell1 + Cell2 Or + Cell1 + Cell2

#### Addition within a Cell in Excel used in example =25+20 or +25+20

Here we apply addition formula within a same cell with two different methods. The first formula we used as “=25+20” and we get the answer in the same cell. And the 2^{nd} formula we use here as “+25+20” here we also get the addition within a same cell of excel.

## How to Use Excel Addition Formula for Multiple Cells [Example 3]

In this example we will calculate the total numbers of the students by using excel addition formula for multiple cells. Here we have a small data of test results and we need to calculate total numbers of each students. We take 5 students names and we have some test results numbers for each subjects. Here we apply excel addition formula for multiple cells as “equal sign cell1 plus sign cell2 plus sign cell3 plus sign cell4 plus sign cell5” the answer will come up automatically.

### Addition FORMULA for Multiple Cells =Cell 1 + Cell 2 + Cell 3 + Cell 4+ Cell 5

### Addition Formula used in example: =C4+D4+E4+F4+G4

In this example you can see we apply above suggested formula to calculate total marks obtained by each student. We have the numbers in given from the cell C3 to G4 for each students and we have to give total numbers in H4. So we apply formulas as =Cell 1 + Cell 2 + Cell 3 + Cell 4+ Cell 5 and we got the total numbers which was required.

But note addition formula is only works when we have numeric date in selected cells. So in above picture we can see 2 students were absents and we got errors in their total numbers. So we have to change the formula to calculate their total numbers by using addition. We apply formula here as =C6+D6+F6+G6

### For absent students we apply addition formulas for multiple cells as =C6+D6+F6+G6

## How to Apply Excel Addition Formula for Column [Example 4]

In this example we will calculate the total number of a single student and learn how to apply excel addition formula for column. We have a very small data of a student from (B6 to B10) and we have to calculate total numbers in B11. Simply we apply addition formula for given column and get the answer in B11. We use formula as “equal sign cell1 plus sign cell2 plus sign cell3 plus sign cell4 plus sign cell5” the answer will come up automatically.

### Addition FORMULA for Column:

### =Cell 1 + Cell 2 + Cell 3 + Cell 4+ Cell 5

### Addition Formula used in example: =B6+B7+B8+B9+B10

The above example show how we calculate total numbers of a students. The test results was given from cell (B6) to cell (B10) and we apply formula as “=B6+B7+B8+B9+B10” in cell (B11) so excel give us answer automatically in cell (B11).

## How to Do Addition of Columns in Rows in Excel [Example 5]

Here we have a different data, we have some items their cost price and sales price also mentioned and we have some sales data as well. Here In example 5 we use this data for 3 more simple examples which are.

- Add total sales
- Add the total sales for 1st quarter only
- Add the total sales of IPAD in Jan & March

#### Ø Add total sales (Example 5.1)

In this exercise we have to calculate total number of sales for each items. We have 4 months data here so we use formulas as “equal sign cell1 plus sign cell2 plus sign cell3 plus sign cell4” the answer will come up automatically.

### Add total sales FORMULA: =Cell 1 + Cell 2 + Cell 3 + Cell 4

### Formula used in example: =+E3+F3+G3+H3

So we calculate total sales for 4 months by using addition formula as =+E3+F3+G3+H3 which we apply in I1 and then drag it to continue this formula for the calculation of total sales for all the items.

#### Ø Add the total sales for 1st quarter only (Example 5.2)

On this exercise we will add the total sales for the 1^{st} quarter only in which we have to calculate only for 1^{st} three months total sales. So we use same formula as “equal sign cell1 plus sign cell2 plus sign cell3” and then we will the result as per our requirements.

### Add total sales FORMULA for 1^{st} quarter sales:

### =Cell 1 + Cell 2 + Cell 3

### Formula used in example: =+E3+F3+G3

For 1^{st} quarter sales calculations we used formula =+E3+F3+G3 in I3 and drag it downward to get the results for all the items.

#### Ø Add the total sales of IPAD in Jan & March (Example 5.3)

In last exercises we will have to find out how much IPAD has sold out in Jan & March only. So formula will be =Cell 1(IPDA JAN) + Cell 2 (IPAD March) and we will get to the total sales for Jan and March.

### FORMULA: =Cell1(IPDA JAN) + Cell2(IPAD March)

### Formula used in example: =E12+G12

For the calculation of IPAD sales in Jan and March only. We get the results with the formula =E12+G12.
